Abstract: This paper studies the Role of Ethics and Integrity in the Training of
Future Professional Teachers for National Development. Education plays a very
crucial and important role in the contemporary world because it is an ingredient that
reshapes and changes the way people reason in a society. In education, the role of
ethics cannot be overemphasized as both the instructors and learners must feel safe
for any meaningful learning to take place in order to achieve the desired objectives.
To achieve this, both the teachers and learners must be guided by ethical codes for a
variety of reasons. These codes emerge within the scope of rights and justice of both
the teachers and learners. In this qualitative designed research, 120 participants were
interviewed in five different secondary schools within Sabo Kaduna. The results
obtained revealed that the participants understood the responsibilities of teachers, the
respect and importance of the teaching profession, effective teaching, developing
healthy relationships with school members, and benefiting students and society from
teacher’s professional ethics. Finally, it is recommended that the government and
institution administration should ensure that teachers are educated on ethics and
integrity and must ensure that ethical code of conducts are clearly spelt out for all in
an understandable language, their welfare should be taken care of; as it will reduce
tendency of corruption and bribery within the profession. This will help in improving
professional teaching ethics, which can always evaluate an individual professional
teaching and learning, and even the manner in which they relate and associate during
and after class activities were put forward. It is believed that this research will
contribute significantly in addressing the issues of ethics by taking the views of
teachers both preparing for the profession and within the profession, reveals the
specific context that can go a long way in improving teaching and learning
proficiency for National Development.
