The trend of community-based health insurance in Jimma administrative zone, Western Oromia, Ethiopia.

Abstract

Most nations adopt health insurances in order to finance health care services, enhancing healthcare resources and decreasing the risk of household financial crisis. Hence, Ethiopia is among those nations which have been implementing community-based health insurance that aims at targeting the very large rural agricultural sector and small and informal sector in urban settings. Hence, this study aims to analyze the trend of community-based health insurance in Jimma administrative zone. The methodology employed in this study was document-review design which is based data that is obtained from office of community-based health insurance of Jimma administrative zone. The analyzed data covers the records for the study period of the year 2016 up to 2025. Finally, the study reveals, The analysis reveals that  Jimma administrative zone community accepted CBHI scheme from its inception in 2016 and able to adopt to mass coverage nearly within a decade, the highest gap exists in between paying and non-paying beneficiaries, and the scheme is being financing health care services, enhancing healthcare resources and decreasing the risk of household financial crisis, besides there is an improvement in healthcare facilities in the zone, Finally, the study recommends To get a smooth sailing of the system, there should be maintenance of stakeholder’s mobilizations, besides, it is also advisable to exert a consolidated efforts to strengthen the service quality, coverage of the scheme and beneficiary retention are essential to sustain these gains in a wider range. It is advisable to regional states to enhance coverage among vulnerable households, raising the level of awareness programs in a consolidated fashion and increasing equity in healthcare utilizations
