When Wealth Turns Deadly: The Risks of Investing in India’s Stock Market

PUBLICATION

Abstract: Retail investors now face risk and volatility in the Indian share market, which was formerly seen as a means of generating wealth. People who are unprepared for the intricacies of the market and are lured in by the promises of rapid money have suffered large losses as a result of the rise of option trading. Furthermore, claims of market manipulation and scams involving the government have further damaged public trust in the system. The article aims to investigate the various ways that the Indian share market has turned unsafe for ordinary investors, with particular attention paid to frauds connected to the government, losses from trading options, and purported manipulations of the market structure. The results indicate that although the stock market is still a draw for participants, it frequently acts as a “death walk” for many due to its volatility, unclear laws, and sporadic misuse by influential parties, all of which increase systemic dangers.
